Civic Learning
While attending my first national NACADA conference, I learned of a Peer Advisor program that did a civic learning project each semester. Community services is one of my personal values, so I brought this concept back to my peer program. Each semester, one Peer Advisor volunteers to be the Lead Peer on the Civic Learning, which they create. Typically the activity is a donation drive that benefits a San Diego organization. Civic Learning is a Leadership Education And Development (LEAD) activity that helps the Peer Advisors work on transferable skills: written communication, teamwork, and marketing.
